Families that fall into the category of blended families

The concept of the blended family is something most parents, whether biological or not all strive to achieve. When several family dynamics blend to exist in a natural and welcoming environment, this is a blended family.

A blended family is different from a stepfamily. Although very similar, the blended family is created through more family ties than anyone cares to acknowledge. It is a literal blending of two families, or several dynamics into one. Many people use the term “blended family” as what we commonly know as stepfamily, but I feel they’re both very different.

Let me tell you a little about my blended family. I met my partner many years ago knowing he already had two children to a previous marriage. I soon took on the role as a stepmother. I had no biological ties to these children, only what existed through the ties of being in a relationship with their father. In the early days of our relationship, my partner was a “weekend dad” consisting of access visits each weekend. We then moved on to having the two boys week on and week off, where they would stay one week with (more…)

Running head: SOLUTION-FOCUSED THEORY

Family Genogram Assignment

Billy Pettyjohn, Sr.

Southeastern Oklahoma State University

Abstract

The focus of this paper is the processes, themes, and patterns found by the author while composing a family Genogram of his own family. The Genogram of this family itself will be presented and a narrative will follow. The author will hypothesize about the aforementioned aspects of the Genogram and how they affect his life. The author will then apply the Solution-Focused Theory to one segment of this family and show proficiency in the use of said theory, by demonstrating in detail how to apply this theory to the family in a counseling theater

Family Genogram Assignment

Section One

I will begin this narration of my family with my paternal grandparents. I will discuss the family processes that I am aware of, both from constructing a family genogram for this assignment and from former knowledge. I will discuss how these processes may affect my emotions, cognitions, and behaviors. I will also discuss some family issues that I perceive to be a threat to the ongoing health of the segment of my family that includes my siblings, their spouses, and children. I will (more…)

Family is everything to me.It is where I enjoy my food.It is where I enjoy me bed,my books,my favorite television pro gramme.Family is where I enjoy playing with my children. It is a place I am comfortable with.

It is the place I miss when I am out at work or out of the country. It is where I pray we pray together. It is where we share our thoughts, our dreams, our aspirations. In the family I seek moral support. My best pals are in the family.Family is the best place to be when I am hungry or thirsty. It is where my food taste nice.

Family is my comfort zone.It is where I find Gods blessing in abundance.Without family I will be very lonely. It is where I hold my children’s hand.It is where I enjoy my children’s kisses.

Family is where I found my soul mate.It is where I enjoy to laugh, jokes and sing.

It is the family where I found peace of mind.Looking at my wife and children smiling faces is joy to my heart. The peace of mind that I can not find anywhere else on the globe. When I am tired after a hard days work there is no other place where I want to retire but my (more…)

Animal safety: Microchipping your pet

Why you should microchip your pets.

30 family pets are lost or stolen every minute of every day. Sadly many of these pets never find their way back home because their owners didn’t take measures to identify their pet. Many pets, like cats in particular, are difficult animals to tag. Most cats will wear a collar if they are trained to at an early age, but require break-away collars for their own safety.

While a dog can wear the same collar for years, cats tend to lose their collars frequently, making identification difficult. A microchip is identification you loved pet can’t leave home without.

No matter how careful you are about keeping your pet indoors or supervised, accidents happen. Occasionally, all pets find some opportunity to get loose. Usually we can just call them, and they return quickly, but not always. It only takes a moment to have your pet get stolen or lost.

Look around your own neighborhood and I’m sure you will see many lost pet flyer’s, on phone poles, grocery store bulletin boards and many other places. All of those pet owners, thought losing their pet would never happen to them. Shelters are always over-crowded with lost pets that have no (more…)

Pudgy pets: Why your animal is getting fat

In the UK this week, two dog owners have been fined bu the courts for allowing their pet labrador to become obese, resulting in an endangerment to his health.

Pet insurers are starting to look at the reasons for animals needing vet care and attention, leading to high bills. Will your pet insurance cover your pet if he is overweight?

Pet obesity is becoming more prevalent as pet owners are leading a more sedentary lifestyle and inflicting this upon their pets. In the UK alone, it is estimated 50% of pets are obese, while 15% are clinically obese!

Before you can tackle the problem, you need to understand why it is an issue that needs to be addressed and not just a new gimmick. An overweight animal can suffer from the following problems:

1. heart disease

2. decreased life expectancy

3. diabetes

4. skin diseases

5. heat intolerance

6. depression

So what, you might say, I’m covered by pet insurance but you may not be and you need to check the small print. Either way, not only will it be unpleasant for your animal, but also hit your pocket quite heavily as well as you will no doubt have an excess to pay each time.

Next, we have to (more…)

Buying a Home: The importance of home inspections – Part 1

Ten Reasons Why Now’s the Time to Be a Certified Home Inspector

Periodic adjustments in the real estate market, not only provide new opportunities for home buyers, but also for individuals working in the industry. Certified home inspectors now have the opportunity to emphasize the importance of their services to both buyers and sellers.

Home inspections provide an objective evaluation of the house that allows home buyers to make an informed decision. Home sellers, on the other hand, can have a home inspection prior to listing a house. This will allow the seller to make any necessary repairs beforehand. In a market slowdown, home inspections give both sellers and buyers peace of mind.

Here are ten reasons why a home inspection career is a great career choice:

Job Security Millions of homes are bought and sold each year. Even in difficult times, this fact doesn’t change. And each year more and more Americans learn how essential a home inspection is before buying or selling their house.

Flexibility Home inspection businesses grow as you build relationships in the community. That’s why many home inspectors keep their full-time jobs until their name is known by local agents and brokers. You (more…)

Best schools of veterinary medicine in the US – Part 1

There are many good schools of veterinary medicine in the United States. After months of research and miles of travel touring campuses (I had wanted to become a veterinarian), I found that Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences was a best. It offered a superior academic program, several specialties unavailable at other schools, and a wonderful location.

The veterinary school is unsurpassed in academic excellence. It is fully accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Surprisingly, not all of the veterinary schools are fully accredited. Accepting only a limited number of students into the program each fall, preference is given to applicants with the highest grades and test scores as well as experience working (or volunteering) with animals and those from within the state of Oklahoma. The program has rigorous requirements for graduation. The course work is difficult and the schedule is grueling. It is only recommended for those who are seriously pursuing a career as a veterinarian. The instructors are well-educated, many graduates from the OSU veterinary school and others from top universities and schools of veterinary medicine around the world. (more…)
